West Allis

West Allis SignWest Allis is a city located in Milwaukee County.  Known as the “City At the Center”, its one of the largest suburbs in the Milwaukee Area. The city is best known for hosting the Wisconsin State Fair which is held every August.   The current population of West Allis is 60,732 according to US Census Bureau estimates for 2012.

City Government

The city government of West Allis is run under a mayor-council format.  The Common Council is a 10 person body consisting of 2 members for each of the city’s five aldermanic districts.  The people of West Allis elect the Council and the Mayor.  The current Mayor of West Allis is Dan Devine.

School Board

The West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is governed by a nine person school board elected by the citizens of West Allis and West Milwaukee.

State Government

In the Wisconsin Senate, the East Side of West Allis is represented by Senator Tim Carpenter (D) while the West Side of the city is represented by Senator Leah Vukmir (R).   For the Wisconsin Assembly, the East Side of West Allis is represented by Daniel Riemer (D), while Joe Sanfelippo (R) represents the West Side of the City.

West Alls is part of the Milwaukee media market.  Television stations that gather and cover news for Southeast Wisconsin are WTMJ-NBC-4WITI-FOX 6WISN-ABC-12, and WDJT-CBS 58.  According to Nielsen, Milwaukee has the 34th largest television market.  The signals for two popular news talk radio stations can be heard in West Allis.  Those are WISN 1130 AM and WTMJ 620 AM.    WISN and WTMJ carry popular talk radio personalities such as Charlie SykesJay WeberJeff WagnerMark Belling, and Vicki McKenna.   The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is the major newspaper covering West Allis.  The Journal-Sentinel has a statewide circulation of 166,759.  The Greenfield Patch covers more hyper-local news about West Allis and the surrounding communities.
