logoFranklin is a city located in Milwaukee County.  Franklin encompasses an area of 34.69 square miles, and is a 22 minute drive North of Milwaukee.  According to the Wisconsin Department of Administration, the estimated population of Franklin for 2013 stands at 35,810 people. This represents a 1.0% increase from the 2010 Census.

City Government

The city of Franklin is governed under a Mayor-Council format. The Mayor is elected for 3 year terms in the spring election. The Mayor is the Chief Executive. His responsibilities include ensuring that all City ordinances and State laws are observed and enforced, confirms that all City Officials properly discharge their duties, and, if necessary, casts tie breaking vote in Common Council meetings. Currently, the Mayor of Franklin is Tom Taylor.

The Common Council has 6 members representing each of the 6 Alderman Districts. According to the Municipal Code, council members serve 3 year overlapping terms. Currently, the Common Council President is Steve F. Taylor.

School Boards

The city of Franklin is split between three school district – the Franklin Public School District, the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District, and the Whitnall School District.

The Franklin Public School District is run by a seven person school board. Board members are elected every three years with overlapping terms and with elections held every year in April. The Franklin Public School District covers 7 schools and serves the majority of the city of Franklin. The President of the Franklin Public School District is Janet Evans.

The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District is run by a five person school board. Board members are elected every three years with overlapping terms and with elections held every year in April. The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District covers 10 schools and serves residents of the far eastern side of Franklin, in addition to the City of Oak Creek as a whole. The President of the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District is Frank Carini.

The Whitnall School District is run by a seven person school board. The Whitnall School District covers four schools – two elementary, one middle school, and one high school – and serves the residents residing on Franklin’s far Northwest side. The President of the Whitnall School District is Bernard Shaw.
